5 Days, 4 nights Chobe Safari Information-lodge & boat

On this unique safari you have the opportunity to stay at a luxury tented lodge on Impalila island(Namibia), each tent with their own intimate balcony on the river, a spacious lodge lounge, a bar and swimming pool, as well as on a luxury safari boat on the Chobe River, on the Namibian side of the river.  The Safariboat take full advantage of the Chobe National Park which is home to the largest elephant population in the world.  The Caprivi floodplains also provide birders with a wonderful diversity of habitat.  The Safariboat have access to several exclusive docking sites which the houseboat moves between every day.  These sites are the best on the river and all are within the Chobe National Park.

The cost for the 5 days, 4 nights is R   per person sharing.


 Day 1 – After arriving at Kasane airport you will be transferred to Kasane immigration office, from there, a boat ride to Imaplila Island where you will enter into Namibia and then a short boat ride to River Lodge.  On arrival you will be shown to your rooms and then served a light snack on the deck of the Lodge.  The afternoon we will depart on our photographic boat to explore and photograph the wonderful wildlife and bridlife found along the banks of the Chobe River. Pre-dinner drinks will be served at 18:30 on the Lodge.  A presentation and general photographic discussion will take place during the pre-dinner drinks.  Dinner will be served at 20:00.

Day 2 – Early morning coffee and rusks before heading out on our photographic boat.  First light out on the river is a wonderful time to capture the awakening day.  Alternatively you can even take a guided walk on Impalila Island to view the local villages or to climb the magnificent 2000 year old Baobab tree, from the top of which you can see where Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe all come together.  Breakfast at the Lodge at 9:30 and at 12:30 you will be transferred by tender boat to the Safariboat.  Once you are on board you will be shown to your cabins, given a welcome briefing by the Captain and then while you are enjoying a light lunch the Safariboat will begin to cruise to its first docking site at Elephant Bay.  The Safariboat is a luxury houseboat that offers en-suite cabins with large sliding windows that allow you to experience the rivers and its surrounds in absolute comfort. The afternoon we will depart on our photographic boat or you can stay on board and enjoy this unique African river cruise or work on your processing techniques.  Pre-dinner drinks will be served at 18:30 and dinner at 20:00

Day 3 & 4 – Early morning coffee and rusks before heading out on our photographic boat.  Returning to the houseboat your chef will have prepared a wonderful brunch for you at 11:00.  12:00 – 13:00 a presentation will be given by your photographic host.  The rest of the time can be spent on the photographic boat or on the houseboat working through processing techniques.    The day will be planned to maximise our photographic time in the field.  Pre-dinner drinks will be served at 18:30 and dinner at 20:00.

Day 5 – Departure – After an early morning excursion on the photographic boat we will enjoy breakfast and then transferred by tender boat to Impalila Island to exit out of Namibia and then across the river to Botswana to enter into Botswana, and then transferred to Kasane airport.

A deposit of 50% of the full price is required when making your booking. A booking can only be confirmed once we have received the deposit. If we fail to receive your deposit, your provisional reservation will lapse.


The balance is payable at least 60 days prior to the safari.


If you need to cancel your booking for any reason; the following cancellation fees will apply, regardless of the reason for cancellation.

  • 90 – 60 days prior to departure – 30% of the deposit is forfeited
  • 59 – 30 days prior to departure – 50% of the deposit is forfeited
  • 29 – 0 days prior to departure – 100% of the deposit is forfeited


Every guest is responsible for his/her own travel plans to and from Kasane

Your travel plans are made entirely at your own risk and HdB Photographic Workshops/Safaris will not accept responsibility for any flight cancellations, disruptions or delays on your way to Kasane.

Travel Insurance

Please note that all guests must be covered by their own fully comprehensive travel and medical insurance policy valid from the date that they confirm the booking with us.  This is a malaria area and we do advise clients staying on board to consult their doctor for medical advice prior to travel.  We accept no responsibility for any medical conditions, illnesses or related incidents that may occur during your safari, even if we have been fully informed about your condition.

Immigration formalities and visa requirements

Our Lodge is in Namibia.  Currently Australian, UK,USA, South African, French, German and Italians do not require visas, but as these do change please check prior to travel.  No visas can be bought at the border post and must be obtained prior to travel.

Arrival and departure details

The majority of our clients use SA Airlink from OR Tambo to Kasane Airport – this is a 90 minute flight and is the most direct route.

  • Transfer from Kasane airport to Kasane immigration – 10 minutes – R150 per person one way
  • Transfer from Livingstone airport to Kasane immigration – 2 hours – R450 per person one way
  • Transfer from Victoria Falls Airport to Kasane immigration – 90 minutes – R450 per person one way

Arriving at Kasane airport our transfer company will meet you to transfer you to the Kasane immigration office on the banks of the Chobe River at 14:30.  Staff from Ichingo Chobe River Lodge will meet you there and assist you in exiting out of Botswana and then take you by tender boat across the Chobe River to Impalila Island (about 10 minutes) where you will enter into Namibia.  Both these border controls merely entails filling out a form and getting a stamp in your passport.  Once you have entered into Namibia it is a short boat ride to Ichingo Chobe River Lodge.

Self drive guests

Self drive guests are able to leave their vehicles in a secure parking area next to the Kasane Immigration Office.


Lodge – 220V electricity is available from 5pm to 11h30 pm and times during the day at the discretion of management.  Wi-fi is available to all guests at no charge from 5pm to 11h30 pm.

Due to the nature of rivers, boats and layout of the Lodge, we regret we are unable to cater for disabled facilities.

HdB Photographic Workshops/Safaris and its staff accept no liability or responsibility for any damage, injury or loss of any kind whatsoever, including but not limited to death, disability, property theft or damage, cancellation of your workshop/safari or any other such incident as may arise on your workshop/safari. By completing the booking form and booking your workshop/safari, you agree that you are aware of the inherent risks associated with travel and you further agree to indemnify HdB Photographic Workshops/Safaris from any claim or liability which may result from any kind of loss or accident which may occur during or after or as a result of your workshop. You are participating on this workshop/safari entirely at your own risk.
